This is the only picture I have of Mommie's visit before she moved with her new husband George. We were able to meet George after the wedding and I have to say I really like the man. He has quite a sense of humor and a passion for the scriptures.
Becca took this photo of her while they were out for coffee. The newlyweds are getting settled after moving back to Santa Maria. She told me how she is loving the church and church family. This makes me really excited for her new journey with the Lord and her husband.

Dad's Retirement
What a blessing it was for Dave to go to Dad's retirement party that Roth's put on for him in West Salem. Dave was able to capture every bit of emotion. Here are some of my favorite pictures of the event.
Dad's boss knew a cartoon artist and had a picture of Dad sent to the guy. They told him everything Dad loved and this is what came of it. In the drawing you can see Dad's favorite RC drink, fishing poles, signs that direct to garage sales, tv dinners (I guess when he worked in Woodburn he would eat a Banquet TV dinner everyday), gun for hunting, and of course his flannel shirt.
Dad dressed in a polo shirt and jeans to some-what dress nice for the event. They brought a flannel for him to wear. Everyone came wearing flannel shirts. LOL!
I love this photo Dave captured. It really just showed how much everyone loved Dad no matter the age. I heard one gal say to him, "I just don't know what we are going to do with out you, Jack." Do you know what his answer was, "Oh, you'll survive." I don't think he realized what an impact he had on the many stores he worked at, but he did. Maybe he didn't realize it until after the party.
Heather came home from Iraq just a couple of days before Dad's retirement. This picture of Heather and Mom I just love.
So, Dad was at work about a week before the party receiving product on a truck. Then he sees this box. He says, "Who ordered this?!" The driver jokingly says (and also ruining the surprise a bit), "Didn't you know Jack? It's yours!" It was a $1000 Tregar Barbecue. Of course Jack came home giddy but didn't want to get his hopes up cause maybe the guy was really joking. But, at the party, there was the box with a banner over the front and a bow on top. He was able to open it in front of everything. What a gift for him! He made room for it on his porch the next day (bringing us his old one that can only cook a couple of burgers on compared to this baby!).
This is a picture of Orval Roth and his son who manages all the Roth's. Dad said about a week before the party, that Orval came into his backroom, and waltzed right up to him and said, "I'm having pizza with you next week!" Dad said, "All I could say was, 'Umm yes sir," while nodding his head. I guess Dad said he couldn't remember Orval ever going to a retirement party.

What Happened?
So, maybe some of you are wondering what happened to the Evans family? Are we sick? No, well we were all sick with the flu several weeks ago and are now well. Have we moved? No, been there. Done that. Have we been working more? No more than usual. On vacation? Dave got to go fishing twice last month and we got to go to the Oregon coast for Memorial Day. So what's my excuse for leaving my friends and family hanging for two months? One word. Frustration. Yes, this whole "blog design" got a bit of the best of me and I have actually tried posting photos several times for the system to crash. For some that means to just keep trying until it is conquered. For me it means wait. Wait until I was ready to come back and try it again.
Instead of doing Week in the Life, I am just going to try and post photos and a quick narrative of what has happened this last month. Fair? Good. Cause I don't know how many more times I can try and post about Dad's retirement party without loosing it. ;)

A Week in the Life: Monday
![]() | |||
I work on Monday's. I found this great picture of Ethan on the camera while I was gone. ;)
When I came home from work this is what I found. ;) I actually find this every Monday night. But, that's ok... that's what I am home for. To keep order.
Ethan has fun playing by the back door so he can see everything going on outside.
What was Dave doing when I got home? Making homemade potato chips. They were to die for! Then, after he did that, he started making dinner - shrimp alfredo.
Looks like some things in the house had causalities. I am so glad Dave brought his guitar home from church. Dave plays it and Ethan just adores it when he does.
After dinner, I started this mess... I started at 6:30 and didn't finished until 8:30. I only took a time-out when it was time to put Ethan down.

A Week in the Life: Sunday
Dear family, I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to figure this new blogger thing out! I am still taking my blog design class and I am so happy with what I am learning. Although, it is seriously tough stuff! I am trying my best and slowly getting it. (Actually, two weeks is quite fast isn't it?)
One thing I am having a bit of trouble with is loading pictures in this new blogger draft. So, bare with me! I want to make sure I get caught up because this week is A Week in the Life. I have decided to follow Ali Edwards along by doing her capturing the everyday this week. Those might know that I follow along during her December Daily (capturing every day in December up to Christmas). I am capturing Sunday to Sunday, starting with this last Sunday, April 18th.
While I was getting ready in my room, I could hear Ethan singing while Dave made him some toast. I have no idea what he was singing, but this happens quite often. Sometimes I know the song and sometimes it is quite made up. Ethan then played with his cars on the kitchen table. Our neighbor gave him some of the cars that he played with as a child. Yeah, our neighbors are really nice! Normally we go to church on Sundays but this Sunday was spent getting ready to go to Grandma and Grandpa's for a birthday celebration!
(I am going to have to post all my text here since the photos aren't letting me adjust them...) We drove to Grandma and Grandpa's. We got to see the garden, Grandma mowing, and Ethan was able to ride the four wheeler for the first time! When Grandpa pulled it out of the shed, Ethan whispered, "Wooow!"
While we waited for the rest of the family to arrive it was really quiet in the backroom. I found Ethan surrounded with toys playing very happily. After everyone arrived, Grandma got the ice cream and cake out. Grandma and Grandpa have a special way of making their ice cream cones. With a spoon they push the hard ice cream into the bottom of the cone. They make sure it is packed tight. Then, they top the cone with some more. Grandpa likes to put his ice cream in the microwave for ten seconds because it make the entire cycle around the turning plate in the microwave. I guess this is what makes it "soft serve." The sugar kicked in about a minute later with Ethan laughing at everyone's jokes.
When it was time to open presents, Mom opened her new Shutterfly album that I had made for her. She liked it. For the rest of the afternoon everyone laughed and talked. The weather was so nice outside that Ethan had a great time exploring. I guess too much fun exploring. Mom and Dad just had their roof redone the week before. I asked what was in Ethan's mouth and I had to pull out a roofing nail from his mouth! AHHH! Just add that to the list of "Things-I-Have-Told-Ethan-To-Get-Out-Of-His-Mouth!" Last week it was, "Get your mouth off the handle of the toilet!"

A Little Bit Of Change
Just a quick note to my family that I am taking a blog design class over at Little Light Studios. Which means, I need to practice what I am learning on this blog. So, have fun the next four weeks seeing all the changes I play around with here. ;)
The funny thing is I have already done some blog design so I am a little ahead for this week. Heehee... so this whole week my blog has to look plain and boring until next week when we start doing custom work. Can't wait!

Ethan Right Now You Are...
Life has gone back to normal in the Evans' household. Dave is better and back to work this week. This means that our routine is back to normal with me teaching Ethan from home. This week we have been teaching Ethan the true meaning of Easter. It's been a blessing to watch him learn.
Ethan, right now you are...
loving to paint and do art projects
very active
learning to sit still, listen, and obey
could play all day outside if you could - even if it was raining all day long
gives kisses and hugs
so strong and heavy that I can't carry you for long
can read all on your own now
can snuggle with me in my bed reading a book on your own

Prayers Would Be Kindly Appreciated
Last night Dave was working on cooking Sarah's dinner. He hasn't stopped talking about celebrating Sarah's birthday all week. He had planned on cooking this amazing lasagna by Bobby Flay. He promised to make it for her for months and her birthday seemed like the perfect time to do it. It takes two days to make the meal with the three sauces from scratch. When I looked at the three page print out that Dave was reading it made my head spin. Dave started cooking at 6pm and after Ethan went to bed I relaxed on the sofa watching a movie.
At about 11pm, Dave had taken out the stock pot out of the oven. The recipe called for the use of a Dutch oven but we didn't have one so he used our stock pot instead. The stock pot was filled with one of the sauces and the meat. Dave had already taken out the meat and was ready to strain the sauce into a bowl. Being as tired as he was, he forgot to use oven mits and took the handles of the stock pot to the sink. Half way his hands were burning and he rushed to the sink in a hurry. The pot must of hit the edge of the sink and poured right onto him.
I was in the other room and heard the screaming. There is nothing like hearing your soul mate screaming in terror. Let me just say it broke me before even reaching him in the kitchen to see what happened. I was looking around for blood or anything to tell me what was the matter. Dave started to strip his clothes and then I knew that his body from the waist down was badly burned.
The rest of the night is a blur. Praise the Lord that Ethan never woke up once in the night with his door opening to the kitchen and dinning room. I called the doctor and they gave us advice to treat him at home. There was no going to the hospital with the pain that he was in. I hopped from kitchen to bedroom all night helping administer pain medication, cold rags, a cool bath, rags from the freezer, and even ice packs in between (per the doctor). Dave finally fell asleep at about 3am while I was finishing up cleanning the kitchen. The sauce had covered the entire kitchen, dining room, part of the hallway, and all the lower cupboards. I am so thankful for buying a huge bottle of Dawn at Costco that afternoon. While I was cleaning Dave's phone beeped a reminder. When I looked at it, it said, "Sarah's birthday dinner. Make lasagna."
At 4am I laid on the bed and pulled a blanket over myself but I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes I saw Dave screaming. I was also afraid that I would miss the 5am alarm to give Dave his medication. At 5am I called Becca and Josh to tell them what happened and asked if they would be willing to take Ethan for the day so Dave and I could get some rest. Of course they said yes.
I laid down and I woke up to Josh and Becca's car door outside. Josh, Becca, and I sat in the living room whispering until Ethan began to stir. I sat next to Ethan and said, "Guess who's here?" He answered, "Who is it, Mama?" I said, "Auntie Becca and Uncle Josh." He lept out of his bed and ran to the living room. When he saw Josh he yelled, "Uncle!" It was so precious. I will remember it always.
Dave this morning still wanted to finish the meal. "What about Sarah's birthday? She leaves for California on Wednesday." We all told him that she would understand. That is why I love my husband. He never is thinking about himself. We are going to freeze everything so that he can make it later. We all love Sarah and we are so thankful for having her in our lives. She is so worth it. We missed seeing her and the family tonight.
Dave has second degree burns with one inch tall blisters on his body. The pain isn't as bad as last night but if you could be in prayer about his healing we would be blessed.

Photographer Ethan
Our budding photographer, Ethan, took Becca's camera after his party. Look how he looks through the "view finder" on Becca's point and shoot.
Get those elbows down! We never taught you that!
Tuck in your elbows. That's better!
Sweet Korissa
Sarah took these beautiful pictures of Korissa at Ethan's party. I love them! Yeah! I have girlie pictures to play and scrap with! Ha!
